  Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

This is an operation done to make the abdomen appear flatter. The contour of the abdomen is affected by the quality and elasticity of the skin, the amount of fat deposits beneath the skin, and the laxity of the abdominal muscles. These problems can affect both women and men.

The abdomen can have excess skin and fat which does not improve despite diet and exercise. The effects of aging, pregnancy and childbirth, weight loss, and other operations on the abdomen can all contribute to excess sagging skin and fat and to lax abdominal muscles.

There are a number of types of abdominoplasty. To varying degrees these operations involve removing the excess skin and fat with tightening of the abdominal muscles. Liposuction may be used at the same time to further improve the appearance of the abdomen.

  Liposuction (Liposculpture/ Suction-Assisted Lipectomy)

The most commonly involved areas with unwanted fat deposits are the tummy, outer and inner thighs, buttocks and the inner knees.

Liposuction involves sucking out fat cells, through very small incisions in the skin, using blunt-tipped cannulae. In some patients ultrasound is used to help with the removal of the fat cells. The fat cells are removed permanently and are not replaced by the body.

  Thigh/Buttock/Body Lift

This procedure is reserved for when there is more than just unwanted fat deposits in these areas. If the skin is also lax due to loss of elasticity and has sagged, then these areas can be lifted to give a more attractive thigh and buttock area. The procedure may be combined with liposuction to further improve the appearance.

Those who have lost a lot of weight may benefit from this operation.
